Many other stores closed or went underground during crackdowns in summer 2024. The ones listed here are either discreet or have great bribery skills. Your neighborhood dive bar probably lets you smoke weed in the front or back, but it’s just not the same.

Are Consumption Lounges Legal?

New York’s smoking law allows for “consumption lounges”. These can be Amsterdam-style coffee houses, or any other type of weed bar or event space. Awesome, and unlike anywhere else in America. They can’t be a dispensary or distributor, and they can’t sell black market weed.

However, no permits have been issued as of 2024. So these spaces operate in a hazy gray area. Good luck out there.
